The story begins with a boat trip across the Pacific, from San Francisco to Shanghai, on the container ship APL Houston.
17 days on the biggest expanse of anything on our small blue planet forced me to consider our companion, the moon. A simple ever changing circle of light in a universe that is mostly dark.
Upon arrival in the south of Thailand I embarked on field trips to the countryside. Dragonflies were everywhere in the rice fields. The life of a dragonfly begins in water. One day, the nymph dragonfly climbs above the water. It raises it’s head and begins to inhale air. It continues – up into the light. At first the dragonfly’s colours are muted but it quickly transforms to it’s full and final iridescent colours.
These pieces are reflections of that path of transcendence, from water to light, from nothing to something and then back again.
