What types of classes do you offer?
The course subject matter depends on the specialties of our artists/instructors. Our core set of courses includes, but is not limited to:
Children:
- Creative Pottery
- Drawing Skill Building
- Painting with the Masters
- Writing and drawing (Story Art)
- Mixed Media (Imagine Art! and Little Art Explorers)
- Performing arts such as Musical Theatre
Adult:
- Intro to Pottery Wheel
- Intro to Handbuilding Pottery
- Intro to Watercolour
- Intro to Acrylic
- Draw Like a Beginner
When do classes start and when can I register?
We offer new courses each season. Registration is done through the City of Surrey’s registration system and align to the City’s registration dates. Specialty classes and workshops are offered through our Shopify shop.
What ages do you offer classes for?
We offer classes and programs for all ages, from infant (requires parent participation) to seniors.
To participate in camps, children must be 6-years old and have completed kindergarten.
Participants in adult courses must be at least 18-years old or older.
Are supplies included?
- Children’s classes
- Adult pottery
- Adult ‘intro’ visual arts – includes basic supplies to get you started, additional supplies will be discussed in class by the supply list provided. You are welcome to bring your own supplies.
What is the refund and cancellation policy?
Refunds for Core Courses
Refunds for classes registered through the City of Surrey follows the City policy which is:
- A full refund will be issued less an administration fee. Fees are $5 for programs less than $250 and $25 for classes over $250.
- Refunds for class withdrawal after the start date will be pro-rated based on the number of classes left.

Refunds for Workshops
Refunds for workshops purchased through the SAS Shopify site are permitted up until 24-hours before the program start. No refunds will be issued within 24-hours of the class start. To request a refund, please contact [email protected] with your name, class name, and the reason for a refund. There is no administration fee on the refund.
- For example, the refund deadline for a class that starts on July 11 at 5:00 PM is July 10 at 4:59 PM.
- Note: a full refund will be issued if the class is cancelled.
Refunds for Children’s Day Camps
Refunds for day camps follow the City of Surrey’s policy. A $15 withdrawal fee applies if withdrawing from a day camp more than 7-days in advance of the program’s start. The balance of the registration fee will be refunded.
Within 7-days of the program’s start date, a 50% withdrawal fee on the registration fee applies, in addition to the $15 withdrawal fee.
Extra fees (e.g. supplies) will not be refunded if withdrawal is within 7-days of the program start date.
Refunds for Parties
Party fees are non-refundable. Parties can be rescheduled if requested more than 14-days prior to the party date booked.
Cancellation within 14-days of the party date will be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
Can I transfer my class to someone else?
Classes purchased on the City of Surrey website are not transferable.

Do you offer private classes?
Yes, we offer private workshops. Contact [email protected] to discuss your ideas.
Can I book your facility for an event?
Yes, the Turnbull Gallery and Funke Visual Arts Studio are available for event booking depending on availability.
How do I cancel or change my booking?
Please call us 604-536-8333. Bookings cancelled or altered within 14-days of the event will be subject to a fee.
Can I decorate the room for my event?
Decorations on the walls are not permitted, but you are welcome to bring tabletop or stand-alone decorations. Music can also be played as long as the volume is kept to a moderate level. Contact the office for information on how to access our sound system or bring your own.
How do I get notified of your events?
At the bottom right corner of every page, you will see a sign-up form to subscribe to our newsletter. This is the best way to stay informed of SAS events and news.
We also have an Events Calendar where you can see our upcoming events and classes, and you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
How can I unsubscribe from the newsletter?
At the bottom of every newsletter, you will see “Want to change how you receive these emails? You can update your preferences or unsubscribe.” Click “unsubscribe” to stop receiving our newsletters.
What payment methods do you accept for your membership?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover if you purchase the membership online. We also accept cash at our office in South Surrey Recreation & Arts Centre, open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
