Title: Wood-Fired Vase

Description: Wheel throwing has always been an integral part of my practice in both functional and sculptural work. With exaggerated and spiralling wheel-thrown forms, I hope to capture a sense of movement which echoes those that are used throughout the process of making. I also have a particular interest in the effects of atmospheric firing. Atmospheric firings leave unique impressions on the surface of a pot which speak to the unpredictable movement of flame and ash through the kiln during firing. The presence of the maker’s hand is evident in the shape of the pot, and the effect of the firing is evident on its surface.
