Sherrin Kovach: Obstructed View
Celebrate the Bay

Obstructed View

This painting was created over several days at West Beach in White Rock. Friday the 13th was the smokiest and although I know the view well I could barely see it. Our Bay is beautiful and even in the smoke, you could see why people come to enjoy it. How sad it would be to lose this amazing site.

Pier from West Beach

I took a piece of Greenware down to White Rock beach and drew into it. It was on a smoky day but I could still see the iconic Pier from West Beach. I then used several types of clay, glaze and underglaze to paint in the details after the first firing. The textures are in reference to the beach and the Cracks represent the fragility of the environment and the memories of our beloved pier when it was broken. “Celebrating the Bay and the rebuilding of the prier.”

Medium: Ceramic mounted on local cedar
