Organization Description: Semiahmoo Arts Society is a charity arts organization that has been providing arts and culture services to the White Rock and South Surrey community since 1974. In addition to visual and performing arts programs, we operate a 14-wheel pottery studio located at the South Surrey Recreation and Arts Centre where we provide pottery classes and camps
for all ages and skill levels.

Job Description: We are seeking a passionate and reliable Pottery Instructor to teach wheel-throwing and hand-building classes for students of varying skill levels and ages. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and can adapt instructional practices to suit students’ skill levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach pottery classes (wheel-throwing and or hand-building)
  • Prepare lessons appropriate for children ages 4-12, youths and adults
  • Demonstrate techniques clearly and safely
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students
  • Maintain a clean and organized studio space
  • Follow studio safety and kiln procedures
  • Communicate professionally with students and staff

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have completed a post secondary program that specializes in ceramics or have equivalent experience teaching ceramics with demonstrated abilities in wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques.

The successful candidate will be required to be certified with current Emergency First Aid and CPR C with AED and provide a satisfactory criminal record check.

Schedule: 5-15 hours a week, evenings and or weekends required

Remuneration: $24-$40/hour depending on education and teaching experience.

Support our children’s art class programming! Volunteer in fine arts, working alongside BFA graduates and practicing artists. Gain valuable experience with children, education and the arts.

January–March Opportunities:

  • 2–3 hours per week in the afternoon or on weekends
  • One-day-per-week commitment for 8 weeks

Spring Break (March 16–20 or March 23–27):

  • 3.5-hour shifts: mornings (8:45–12:15) or afternoons (12:45–4:15)
  • Minimum commitment: 5 days during one of the weeks, either mornings or afternoons
