Winter Solstice 2021

Amy Lee

Amy Lee works with a variety of mediums such as watercolour, acrylic, mixed media, and clay. Her works have been exhibited in the following galleries including Surrey, Britannia, Newton, Federation Gallery, Port Moody, Turnbull at Semiahmoo, and Richmond; as well as in a number of community/art centres such as Renfrew, Trout Lake, Cityscape, and Silk Purse at West Vancouver Community Arts Council.

Amy’s art has often been described by her peers as multifaceted and diversified. In genre, style, technical approach, she is forever experimenting and evolving. Her exhibitions often comprise of not only her watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media paintings of various sizes, themes, and subject matters, but also of meticulously handcrafted, one of a kind ceramic jewellery, animal figurines (especially piglets), and collectible-grade pottery.

Many compliments in Amy’s exhibition guestbooks have attested to her diversity of works and style. One, in particular, summarized the whole: “So many different styles – so much to see!”

Celebration of Joy

I have always associated winter with the celebration of Christmas. This painting, with its bright and flaming warm colours is reflective of the symbolic fire and light of the Winter Solstice.

Gifts Under the Tree

The focus here is multiple: there is not only joy in the giving and receiving of gifts; please note the flickering tree ornaments and the presents in shiny gift wraps are also suggestive of the themes of light, life, and rebirth of the sun.
