Members Show 2022

Carla Paterson

I initially trained as a historian, and then, after retirement, shifted to the world of textile art. I love exploring the creative possibilities of needle, thread and fabric. I use these items to tell stories that are often rooted in the past, but have meaning for the present as well.

Warm Coats

This piece depicts my mother and her siblings in the Netherlands in 1940, the year Hitler’s troops invaded the country. For me, it resonates with the current situation in Ukraine. Though the family had no way of knowing what the future would hold, at least at this point, the children had warm coats.

Walking the Semiahmoo Trail

I regularly walk along the Semiahmoo Trail and enjoy observing the changes in vegetation that occur through the seasons. This piece, which includes natural materials I collected, conveys my experience of walking the trail in the fall of 2021.
