Lynda Wylde

I am originally from Alberta. My family moved out to BC in 1974. I have been living in the White Rock area since 2002.

I have been a painter since I was 12 years old, I have tried oils, but prefer acrylic. I love black and white photography and darkroom work. In 1982 I started my career as an apprentice pressman in the commercial printing industry, then switched to platemaking and film stripping. I was also a process camera operator.

In 1991 I went back to school and learned how to use a computer, specifically Macintosh. I added graphic artist and typesetter to my skillset. When you have a career you keep learning and upgrading. A good education is imperative.

In 1995 I started a home-based business as a printmaker. I had gathered three lead-type proof presses from here and there. I learned to set lead-type and carve linoleum. I converted my proof presses to print my linocuts and created a niche market for myself selling my journals to the gift market. At this time, I also learned screen printing at a workshop with Micheal de Courcy.

In 2014 I finished a two year diploma program in design at Langara College, and went back to work in the commercial printing industry. I continue to paint in acrylic, focusing on abstract or surreal styles of work.

I have been a longtime lapidary hobbyist, and enjoy selling the jewelry I make.

The Path Ahead

This dream started out with me at a desert oasis. I was with my family of nomads. One man of my tribe was telling me that I must travel on my own and not stay with my family. I begged him to reconsider and he did not relent. In the next part of the dream, I am in the Mediterranean on an ancient seashore about to board a small wooden ship. There were other travellers with me. Someone noticed a sea serpent in the water and there was mass panic. In the end, they decided that I was not from around there, that I was a stranger, so I was to be thrown into the water as a sacrifice! In I went. I was scared. Then I opened my eyes underwater. The serpent moved away from me and I followed it underwater. It came to a stop beside two windows. I could not see into them. I am unsure what they represent.

The Veil

This image is from a dream I had. It was a very simple dream. In my dream, I could part the air like a veil of drapes. I saw a fairy in a bathtub. She was floating in this endless black void.
