Mary Goldthorp

During my 23 years as principle designer, owner and operator of Fusion FX Design & Marketing Inc., my creative graphic design team & I grew a nation wide portfolio of 37 companies, worked on over 6800 jobs across all genres of businesses and associations. Over these many years, I have taught the basics of graphic design, visual communications, marketing and the art of “editorial design” to each of my new designers. Part of my teaching process was proving the value of free word association, allowing time for sketching & thumbnail drawings (story boards), campaign production and eventually reviewing and reworking elements of design, messaging and composition. The bridge between teaching visual arts and successfully growing a graphic design firm are parallel. The most important aspect of designing for others, is open acceptance of ideas through non judgmental communication. This is the basis of all client/design relationships, therefore it’s the basis of all student/teacher relationships.

Now as I phase out my graphics career, I am “taking the bull by the horns” and dedicating my time and creative efforts towards growing my own brand of art! I have begun with paper collage, mixed media and soft pastels. I am looking forward to hosting my first solo gallery show next year!
