Sherrin Kovach

I studied art at the University of Victoria where I received my BFA.

I use many different media to create art. Painting, printmaking, fibre, photography and sculpture, and often mix them in the same piece. I strive to create work that asks questions and pushes the viewer the think differently about a subject.

Currently, I am painting and exploring ceramics in White Rock/South Surrey.

Summer Forest

This painting is a reflection of the way a forest lives and changes after a fire

Size: 22” x 40”

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Balance in Fire

This sculpture is made of untreated bare wood and clay. The chain is left unglazed, raku fired, then touched with horsehair to make intricately detailed marks. It is a comment on the power of fire, and how it can be constructive and destructive, beautiful and ugly. The wood is kiln-dried which makes it sturdy and stable, the process of raku is intense and volatile yet can give you the most amazing beautiful results. The chain is broken by the heat of the fire yet stays together. My hope is that the viewer will think about the complexity of fire and the forests we live in.
