December Sun

Inspired by my beach walks and the ever-changing light. Winter Solstice is about the sun returning and in this piece, you can see the sun faintly shining through the fog. My intention with this painting was to evoke the feeling of a winter chill, but by using bright colours it is hopeful, not gloomy.

Solstice Glow

This porcelain light dome is made of 2 pieces thrown on a wheel and then hand-carved.  It depicts a winter forest and mountains with the sun on one side and the moon on the other.  It is tradition to light candles on Solstice.  When the candle is lit inside this piece, the warm light shines through the translucent porcelain and makes the carving glow.
